The $100,000 Whoopsie

Hi Trailmakers!

A couple of days ago, we made a mistake. We wanted to add Mech Amok to the Ultimate Edition on Steam and raise the price of the Ultimate Edition as we always do when adding a new expansion to the bundle.

However, due to the Summer Sale coming up we were not allowed to raise the price.

 “Eh, it’s probably fine we can just do that after the Summer Sale”, we thought 

And then something “funny” happened. People started reporting that they had gotten Mech Amok for free out of nowhere. 

“That’s odd. The expansion we just added to the Ultimate Bundle is starting to pop up on people’s Steam accounts for free. What a quirky coincidence!”, we said.

Ohhh ho ho, but it was no coincidence. We simply made a mistake when setting it up and instead of just adding Mech Amok to the Ultimate Bundle, we GAVE it away for FREE…

… TO 10,000 PEOPLE.

That’s a $100,000 mistake, ladies and gentlemen.

We wrote to Gabe Newell:

“Heeeeey G-money, we messed up”.

But Gabe Newell was out scuba diving, so we wrote to developer support instead.

They presented us with two options:

1. Revert it and remove Mech Amok from all the accounts that received it for free.

2. Acknowledge that we fumbled the bag big time and just live with it.

We ultimately (no pun intended) chose option B. 

But it doesn’t end there! Mech Amok is still in the Ultimate Bundle and we are STILL not allowed to raise the price of the bundle, which means that if you buy the bundle you get Mech Amok for free.

We will raise the price after the Summer Sale has ended. Do with that information as you please.
